Elmina Castle, located in Elmina, is the oldest European building in sub-Saharan Africa, originally established for gold trade, the Castle later became a major center for the Transatlantic slave trade. The Castle is a powerful historic landmark offering immersive insight and deep understanding of the inhuman conditions, emotional trauma and severity of human suffering, experienced by enslaved people. Like the other slave forts, and castles dotted along Ghana’s coast, the Elmina Castle is also a place for spiritual, mental and emotional restoration to returning descendants of those who were taken away. https://crcc.gov.gh/elmina-castle/
