Also known as the Osu castle, it is a landmark steeped in Ghana’s colonial and Diasporan history. The castle is located in the coastal suburb of Osu. It was built in 1652 as a Swedish trading lodge. Then the Danish built Fort Christiansborg in 1661. Named after King Christian IV, it is a site of memory and endurance, reflecting the brutal legacy of slavery, and the struggle for freedom.The most recent function of the Castle in Accra , is its transformation into the Presidential Museum of Leadership and Governance. Visitors to the castle can take a guided tour through the Presidential Museum, and former colonial offices,walk through slave dungeons to the Door of no return,and learn about Ghana’s colonial and political history.
